Old Scottish Tunes- The Haughs of Cromdale and the Drunken Piper
Hope you like these two, 1st verse of the Haughs of Cromdale, an old Jacobite tune:-
As I came in by Achindoon,
A little wee bit frae the town,
When to the Highlands I was bound
To view the haughs of Cromdale.
I met a man in tartan trews,
I spiered at him what was the news,
Who’ he, “The Highland army rues
The e’er we came to Cromdale.

O the summer time has come And the trees are sweetly bloomin' And the wild mountain thyme Grows around the bloomin' heather Will ye go Lassie Go? Chorus: And we'll all go together To pull wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will ye go Lassie Go? I will build my love a bower (summerhouse) By yon cool crystal fountain And round it I will pile All the wild flowers o' the mountain Will ye go Lassie Go? (chorus) I will range through the wilds And the deep glen sae dreamy And return wi' their spoils Tae the bower o' my dearie Will ye go Lassie Go? (chorus) If my true love she'll not come Then I'll surely find another To pull wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will ye go Lassie Go? (chorus)

Hi again Damiam and Jim ... another great set of tunes from the pair of you! I certainly know the Haughs of Cromdale from some old (or should that be VERY old) LPs back in the day! The Drunken Piper is new to me and seems from your rhythm to be a march? I'm guessing it's another Scottish tune but happy to be corrected? What key are you playing these in? Great tunes and thanks once again for the effort !! Ed.

I'm 79% Scottish 13% Irish and the rest Welsh. Scotland and Ireland are geographically very close. Over the years and for a variety of reasons we have crisscrossed from both lands. My maternal Irish line descends from the Kerrs/Carrs of Donegal who left Ireland for Scotland before the 1841 Census. The mother is dead youngest is 8 months old. Settled near Nitshill in Glasgow Ellen/Helen was my great great grandmother. Her Father and brothers went down the mine. Her Father died aged 72 in a Mine Accident. A pit carriage ran over his person. She had my great grandmother Margaret Leitch/ Kerr/Carr and never married her Father Archibald Leitch. She was the only child of both parents. It's all on my maternal side our Irish clan. West of Scotland Ayrshire, you are likely to have Irish ancestors.

Hi Ed, thanks for the kind words. Yes it's an old Scottish tune, it sounded familiar to us but we had to look up the name. This one is in the key of D. We try to swap the keys around a wee bit for variety, but D is nice and easy for Mandolins/Banjo. Best wishes
